24 Hour Readathon 2011 Main Post

>>Saturday, April 9, 2011

Hello everyone! I've been up reading for some time now, even though the Read-a-Thon didn't officially start until 8am EST for me. I'm finishing The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness and then I'll move on to more books! I'll be updating this post throughout the day.

Hour 1
1)Where are you reading from today?
I'm reading from my couch in my apartment!
2)Three random facts about me…
I live in Quebec, I love Japanese food and watching movies!
3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
I have about 5, but I have no idea if I'll get that far.
4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?
My goals are to participate in a lot of challenges and to read for as much as the day as I can.
5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?
Have a couple small things you can do besides reading to break up the time a bit, like write a review, or go for a walk.

Hour 2
-Finished The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness (123 pages)
-Starting Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Hour 6
-110 pages into Howl's Moving Castle and enjoying it a lot!

Hour 12
-Did some chores around the house and then took a nap (didn't get much sleep last night). Planning on eating dinner and continuing with reading!

-Mid-event survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
Howl's Moving Castle.
2. How many books have you read so far?
Finished one and started another!
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
Finishing Howl's Moving Castle and then possibly starting Doomsday Book!
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
Not really :)
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Had some interruptions but dealt with them and continued!
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
How fast time goes by!
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Make the mini challenges not so time consuming. Don't know how you can participate with a mini challenge every hour that takes time to do plus read. You could spend the whole read-a-thon on the computer!
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
Try to read more?
9. Are you getting tired yet?
I was tired but I'm getting my energy back!
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
Nah probably not :)

Hour 14
-I've read another 50 pages of Howl's Moving Castle! I'm thoroughly exhausted now and think I'm going to call it in. I've read a lot today (total 273 pages) and am pretty happy about it!

Hour 24
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
Hour 15! I was nearly asleep!
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Hm, The Knife of Never Letting Go was pretty action-packed.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Make the mini challenges less time consuming.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
The organization of all the activities and posts!
5. How many books did you read?
Finished one and started another!
6. What were the names of the books you read?
Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
Howl's Moving Castle
8. Which did you enjoy least?
I didn't not enjoy any!
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Nah they did great!
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I'll definitely participate! Maybe try cheerleading.

  7. I always thought about doing a readathon, but I'm afraid I wont be able to do it. The weekends are hard to judge around here and not knowing what will be going on I wouldn't be able to get all the time in.

But I do try to do one on my own just for me once in a while. To get lost and through a book. :) Sounds like you where working hard here. And I'm curious to see what you think of Howl's Castle. I have it on my WANT list, but always like to hear others thoughts.
