New Rating System

>>Sunday, January 29, 2012

I'm excited to announce my new rating system. I'm scrapping the letter grade (I felt letter grades have too much negative connotations) for the 10 point system. But I'm not going with just 'points'...well, check out my updated Rating System page to see what the new system is!

I'm going to retrofit all my old reviews eventually. I'll slowly go through and convert all my letter grades to the new system since I foresee I'll keep this system for quite a long time. I hope this will allow me more flexibility and diversity when rating books.

Update: Review List, Rating System and DNF Books

>>Saturday, February 26, 2011

Hello everyone! I wanted to let everyone know that I made a couple changes to the blog. I added a Review List to make finding past reviews here easier. I also updated my Rating System. It's staying as an alphabetical rating system, but I updated the descriptions of each grade. I was thinking that I need to be more distinctive when reviewing and rating books and it all starts with a good rating system. I want it to be harder for a book to attain an A grade, because as I was looking over my past reviews, there is a lot of discrepancy between books I've given As to.

As for reviews themselves, I've been a bit slow lately, I know. I went from being a full-time student to finding a full-time job that I started last week. I really like it! I'm trying to keep up with my reading. I think one issue I have is when I don't particularly like or feel engaged with a book, I force myself to read it through, and now I'm debating whether I should just drop a book when I feel like it's not working for me. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about this?

Update and New Layout

>>Friday, September 24, 2010

Hello everyone! I wanted to say I'm sorry for not having the review of Cold Magic up yet. The first couple of weeks of school was pretty hectic and it seems to have calm down by now. Fortunately, I do have a new layout! I hope everyone likes it. I'm still editing it but I pretty much have it all put together.

In other blog news, I have join three new challenges/book clubs. There is the Dreams and Speculation 2011 Book Club with the topic of "Women of Science Fiction", Jawas Read, Too!'s 2011 Book Club with the topic of "Women of Fantasy", and finally a current challenge, The Bookkeeper's Steampunk Challenge. I am very excited to participate in all of these!

I have some more reviews and posts coming up soon so stay tuned!

Acquisitions and Contest

ACQUISITIONS:
It's been a while since I purchased any books. On the weekend I went into a used bookstore down by my school's campus and found they had so many titles I wanted to read! I picked up these three because they were in excellent condition and two were ones I have been wanting to purchase but didn't have the money for the cost of new ones.

I wanted to read Curse of Chalion since I started Beguilement because I enjoyed Bujold writing style so much. Green Rider was a spontaneous buy; I liked the cover and the blurb on the back. Transformation is a book I have been looking at for a long time now but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money on it since I really wasn't sure I'd like it at all. So it turned out great that it was available at the used book store. They also have the two sequels.
